You need the club admin or owner role. Only a club owner can import someone with the owner role. The member directory holds everyone in the club. Adding someone to a crew is a separate step.

Import members

  1. Prepare a .csv file with a header row and no more than 100 member rows.
  2. Open Members, then Import Members.
  3. Choose your file and review the members it resolves.
  4. Submit the import. Check the directory for the new members.
This example adds two fictional members. Replace their details before importing.
Imports add club access. They do not send invitation emails. Give members the member getting-started guide and ask them to sign in with the address you imported.

CSV fields

Use the header names exactly as shown. Omit optional columns you do not need. If you include the role column, fill it with a supported value for each row. Boolean fields recognise true without regard to case. Other text, including yes or 1, becomes false. Use true and false to avoid mistakes. Dietary requirements are not an import field; members enter them in their profiles.

Existing accounts and Cambridge names

If an email address already has a Blades account, the import adds that account to the club and keeps its existing profile. It does not replace the profile with your CSV values. If someone is already a member of the club, the import skips them. Reimporting a CSV does not update their profile or club role. For new Cambridge accounts, Blades tries to resolve the name through the university directory. A successful lookup can replace the supplied name. If no name can be resolved, the import needs a valid name in the file. A directory connection error may prevent the import from completing.

Find members and read feedback

Use the directory’s search field to find members by name. Search applies to the records already loaded, so use Load more when needed. Sort columns or change column visibility to compare rowing eligibility, category and other profile details. Use a member’s row action to view their feedback. To write new feedback, open the relevant session. The directory does not currently offer club-member removal or role editing. Removing someone from a crew only removes their membership of that crew.

Fix an import problem

Check the file format, exact header names, email addresses, role values and category values. Export a CSV rather than uploading a spreadsheet workbook. Remove optional columns you do not need.
Split the file into batches of at most 100 member rows. Keep the header row in every file.
Supply a full name for each new account. If a Cambridge directory request fails, the service’s directory connection may need attention.
The listed people may already belong to this club. Check the directory before trying again.
