# Get started as an organiser

> Set up your club's members, crews and equipment, then plan your first session.

You need the **admin** or **owner** role in your club to follow this guide. We call both roles club organisers. Sign in with the account added to your club and select the club you want to manage.

Blades calls teams **crews**. Each crew is a subset of your club's members. A crew can have several saved **lineups**, each arranging people into seats, equipment and coaching roles. A **session** schedules those assignments at a particular time.

## Set up your club

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add your members">
    Open **Members** and [import a CSV file](/organisers/members). Check that the people you expect appear in the directory. Members use their imported email addresses to sign in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a crew">
    Open **Crews**, create a named crew and add the appropriate people from your club directory. You can create separate crews for different squads or training groups.

    See [Manage crews and lineups](/organisers/crews-and-lineups).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Register equipment and courses">
    In **Bookings**, [add the boats and equipment](/equipment/bookings#register-equipment) your sessions will use. Check boat classes and rigging before assigning seats.

    In **Courses**, [add a rowing route](/organisers/courses) for each water-session course you need. Land sessions do not require a course.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save a lineup">
    Return to your crew and open **Lineups**. Create a named arrangement of equipment, rowers, coxes and coaches. Check the assignment warnings before saving.

    You can reuse this lineup when planning sessions.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Plan your first session">
    Open the crew's **Schedule** in **Calendar** view. Check busy times and river information, choose a period and add a session. Select your lineup, adjust its assignments and save.

    Open the saved session to check its details. Its participants will find it in **My sessions**. Follow [Plan and manage sessions](/organisers/sessions) for the full workflow.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Your regular planning routine

Ask members to keep their [availability](/members/availability) current. Before creating each session, check the crew calendar, river information and equipment bookings. After saving it, review read receipts to see who has read the current plan.

Change the session if the plan changes. Its equipment bookings and participant commitments follow the saved session, and members need to read it again. After rowing, use the session's feedback panel to write a note for everyone or for an individual participant.

Use the club-wide **Sessions** calendar for the overall schedule. Use a crew's **Schedule**, **Members** and **Lineups** sections for that crew's planning.

## Find records in tables

Tables offer search and column controls where available. Use a column header's sorting controls to change the order. For paginated lists, load more records before assuming a search has covered the whole club. The member directory searches the members currently loaded.

**Search**, or `Cmd+K` / `Ctrl+K`, finds application pages and actions. Use the search field inside a table to find its records.

## Create a new club

**Add Club** requires a separate application admin permission. Being an admin of an existing club does not grant it.

If you have that permission, use **Add Club** and enter a name and slug. Check the slug before creating the club; there is no club-slug editing screen. If you do not have access, arrange club creation with the person who manages your Blades service.

For your own rowing, use the same [member guides](/members/get-started) as everyone else.
